On Wednesday 21st of February an activity was organized for the parents. The event started by a Power Point presentation from the Ekoskola Committee. The PowerPoint went over the activities that are taking place at the Centre in relation with the Eat Responsibly Project. Then Ms. Cynthia Caruana, the Eat Responsibly Project Coordinator proceeded. The parents and the Ekoskola Committee were involved in an interactive floor game, which was followed by a baking activity – a carob cake. Mr. Joe Sciberras took the parents on a tour around the school gardens and gave a detailed explanation about organic products.
Having the parents and carers on board is an important aspect we work upon at our centre. We value the participation of all to help towards the holistic development and learning process of all our students. In this regards besides the annual parents’ meeting to discuss individually the way forward of your sons and daughters, we organize monthly meetings on various subjects of interest, being health, academic issues, projects and also opportunities to sound your opinions. We appreciate the attendance of those who attend regularly and always welcome to meet all of you.
This year our Centre is once again participating in Dinja Waħda, an environmental education programme. Several activities were carried out during the first scholastic term including Robin related activities, Organic farming, Generating our own products and Environmental awareness outings.
The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of love, generosity and goodness, but also a time to celebrate. At our centre, the students celebrate in many ways throughout the year but getting all together and perform during our Christmas concert is definitely one they enjoy. The concert is the result of the students’ participation during curricular sessions, and the collective effort of the percussion band, the choir ,the actors, and the dancers produced an outstanding performance,L-Eroj iżuru Betlem.
The centre hosted with pleasure the visit of Mr Edgar Preca, husband of Her Excellency the President, Ms Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. Bħala parti mill-EkoSkola, din is-sena tkompla l-proġett bl-isem Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE). Dan il-proġett ta’ l-opportunità lill-istudenti sabiex huma stess ikunu ġurnalisti tal-ambjent permezz tal-fotografija. Ir-ritratti magħżula ser ikunu ppreżentati lill-grupp nazzjonali tal-YRE f’Malta (li huwa parti min-Nature Trust Malta) u jistgħu jiġu ppublikati fil-‘YRE Newsletter’, kif ukoll jiddaħħlu f’kompetizzjoni. Din is-sena wħud mir-ritratti ser ikunu parti wkoll mill-proġett Litter Less Campaign.
Building a sense of altruism amongst our students help develop functional social skills. With this in mind , our centre participates in any way possible to reach this target. Activities included, dress up in pink, car wash day, selling of artefacts produced by the students, selling of hair products, applying pink nail polish and an informative meeting for parents. Amongst donations and activities, a sum of 187 Euros was collected, which will be duly forwarded to Pink October Campaign.
Team work, active participation, fun and socialising are few of the skills targeted during our sports day. This bi-annual appointment outside our centre’s doors, opens an opportunity for our students to participate during this event. Like others before it, this year’s sports day, held at Cottonera Sports Complex, was once again a successful learning experience.
Another year, another week marked with activities related with animal awareness. Our students were given the opportunity to come in touch with several types of animals that were hosted at our centre. Nothing beats hands-on learning and the interest and excitement shown by our students once they could personally handle the animals was in itself a confirmation of this.
